The Department of Chemistry at Yonsei University leads in education and research across a wide spectrum of areas, including polymer chemistry, electrochemistry, nanochemistry, materials chemistry, theoretical and computational chemistry, chemical physics, and energy chemistry. Grounded in the traditional core disciplines of organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry, our department is consistently engaged in interdisciplinary research to tackle the increasing complexities of modern societal and industrial challenges. We are dedicated to translating cutting-edge science and technology into practical applications for everyday life.
Pioneering chemistry education in Korea since its establishment in 1917, the Department of Chemistry at Yonsei University proudly celebrated its centennial milestone in 2017, marking it as the first domestic university to do so. As we anticipate our 107th anniversary in 2024, our commitment remains unwavering. We persistently provide research resources and state-of-the-art infrastructure to nurture independent and innovative research, fostering the development of exceptional global leaders who will shape the future of fundamental science.
As of September 2023, our department boasts a dynamic faculty of 20 full-time members, supported by a dedicated team of 20 researchers and a vibrant community of 143 graduate students engaged in world-class research endeavors. Additionally, we cultivate the next generation of chemists with a systematic undergraduate education program, currently mentoring 277 students. Our dedication to excellence has earned Yonsei University's Department of Chemistry a distinguished position in the QS World University Ranking (Chemistry, 2021), placing us among the top 100 institutions worldwide. Our unwavering commitment to continuous improvement positions us on a trajectory towards becoming one of Korea's premier institutions for chemistry education and research, with a vision of securing a place among the world's top 20 in the near future.
